The previous book I read was a long graduate level text book that was sometimes difficult to read. Mark’s book was just the opposite. As he puts it, it is “meant to be a shorter book that can be easily grasped by people who don’t have specialized academic knowledge and who don’t want to wade through a much longer tome.”

He discusses many topics such as the early manuscripts, who were the writers, when were they written, miracles, archeology, and much more. I especially liked his discussion on the reliability of the early Christian oral tradition. Looking back, I’m amazed at how much he was able to pack in to such a small book.

I would highly recommend this book for those who have questions regarding the gospels and want something accessible to the normal layman. Mark Roberts also has some great resources on his website. In fact, this book is based off of one of his blog series.
